Fake doctor in court

Admire Chisi, the twenty-five-year-old man from Zimre Park in Ruwa who made headlines for posing as a specialist doctor at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ casualty unit for seven months,has appeared in court.
Chisi is facing charges related to impersonating a public official and fraud. He appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Judith Taruvinga who rolled over the matter to today for continuation of bail hearing. The State is opposing bail for on the grounds that he faces a serious offence.
The court heard that between April and October this year, Chisi posed as a specialist, a physician registrar, at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Chisi worked in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department His luck ran out when concern among fellow staff members grew with regards to his skills and ability. The concerned workers raised a number of inquiries which resulted in the fake medical doctor being exposed. Chisi was apprehended by Doctor Tapiwa Nyakudya who had discovered some anomalies on his conduct that contrasted the medical profession. Upon being challenged to authenticate his qualifications, Chisi failed to produce his practising certificate. The court heard that Chisi was taken to the police where a report was made leading to his arrest. Parirenyatwa Hospital has issued a statement confirming that Chisi was indeed a fake doctor and that they had handed him over to the police.
Parirenyatwa Hospital was slammed for failing to detect Chisi for seven months. The institution’s leadership has been criticised for failing to properly supervise staff.
